Disabling Web Browser Pop-up Blockers

CarrierNet requires that your web browser is configured to allow pop-ups in order to function correctly.  Often web browsers will default or be configured to block pop-ups from automatically appearing on your screen.  Instructions for the most popular web browsers are provided below.


Google Chrome

Google Chrome prevents pop-ups from automatically appearing and cluttering your screen. Whenever the browser blocks pop-ups for a site, the Chrome pop-up blocker icon icon appears in the address bar. Click the icon to see the pop-ups that have been blocked or to manage pop-up settings for the site.

To See pop-ups for a specific site

  1. If pop-ups have been blocked, you'll see the Chrome pop-up blocker icon icon in the address bar. Click the icon to see a list of the blocked pop-ups.
     
  2. Click the link for the pop-up window that you'd like to see.
     
  3. To always see pop-ups for the site, select Always show pop-ups from [site]. The site will be added to the exceptions list, which you can manage in the Content Settings dialog.

To Allow pop-ups

  1. Click the settings icon Chrome Settings Icon on the browser toolbar.
     
  2. Select Settings.
     
  3. Click Show advanced settings... at the bottom of the page.
     
  4. In the Privacy section, click the Content settings button.
     
  5. In the Pop-ups section, select Allow all sites to show pop-ups.

    • Select Done to exit.

  6. To customize permissions for specific websites by clicking Manage exceptions

    • Enter [*.]carriernet.co.uk

    • Select Done twice to exit.

Internet Explorer 8 and 9

The Pop-up Blocker is turned on in Internet Explorer by default. To change its current state, follow these steps:

  1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button Windows 7 Start Menu icon, and then clicking Internet Explorer.
     
  2. Click Tools, and then click Pop-up Blocker.
     
  3. Do one of the following:
    • To turn off Pop-up Blocker, click Turn Off Pop-up Blocker.
       
    • To turn on Pop-up Blocker, click Turn On Pop-up Blocker.

Internet Explorer 10 & 11

The Pop-up blocker is turned on in Internet Explorer by default.  To change its current state, follow these steps:

  1. At the start screen (Metro or Modern interface) type control panel and press Enter.
  2. The start page will disappear and you will be taken to the Desktop with the Control Panel application active.
  3. In the search area of control panel type Internet Options

  4. Under Internet Options select Block or allow pop-ups

  5. This will open the Internet Options dialog box with the Privacy tab selected.

  6. Either
    • Deselect Turn on Pop-up Blocker
      or
    • Select Pop-up Blocker Settings and enter the URLs of the web sites you want to allow pop-ups from.  For CarrierNet enter:
      • *.carriernet.co.uk
      • IE Popup Blocker Settings
    • Select Close
  7. Select Apply to activate your changes
  8. Close the Internet Properties dialog box
  9. Close the  Control Panel
  10. Press the Windows key to return to the Start page.

FireFox

To access the pop-up blocker settings:
  1. Click the settings icon Chrome Settings Icon on the top right left bar and then click Options for Windows or Preferences for OS X.

  2. Select the Content tab. 



  3. In the content panel:

    • Block pop-up windows: Uncheck this to disable the pop-up blocker altogether.
    • Exceptions: This is a list of sites that you want to allow to display pop-ups.

  4. The Exceptions dialog box allows you to enter web sites where popups are allowed. Only use this if you did not uncheck the Block pop-up windows option.

    Enter *.carriernet.co.uk and then select Allow.


  5. After add the site, the dialog box looks like this.



  6. From this dialog box, Remove Site will remove selected sites, Remove All Sites will remove all sites from the list.

  7. Close all configuration windows when finished.
